*Healing from Sexual Abuse, by Kathleen, InterVarsity Press, © 1991This is a small inexpensive ($1.50 each) booklet that can be handed out to victims of Sexual Abuse to promote healing.

 

*Children and Sexual Abuse, by Victoria Johnson, InterVarsity Press, © 2007 Small inexpensive book ($1.50 each) recommended resource for every church to have. Gives good information on extent of child abuse, how to help children and how to deal with offenders. Would be good to provide this to every church leader and teacher in your church.

 

*When Child Abuse Comes to Church: Recognizing Its Occurrence and What to Do About It, by Bill Anderson, Bethany House Publishers, 1992 – Not in publication today but can search Amazon.com to find copies available very good reference book

 

*Invisible Girls, The truth about sexual abuse, by Dr. Patti Feuereisen. A book for teen girls, young women, and everyone who cares for them. This book is written by a secular psychotherapist but has a lot of helpful information for victim/survivors and those who want to help them.

 

*Kissed the girls and made them cry, by Lisa Bevere also has a companion workbook. This is a bible study for teen girls to help them stay pure in their relationships with the opposite sex.

*Preventing Child Sexual Abuse (Ages 5-8), by Kathryn Goering Reid, United Church Press, 1994.Curriculum guide which contains recommendations for preparing church leaders and parents for implementing the course in your church.

 

*Preventing Child Sexual Abuse (Ages 9-12), by Kathryn Goering Reid with Marie M. Fortune, United Church Press, 2002 Same as above but for older children.

 

*Sexual Abuse Prevention, A course of study for teenagers, by Rebecca Voelkel-Haugen and Marie Fortun

  

Church Policy Resources

 

These references are to help church leaders in their hiring of and selecting employees and volunteers for their children’s ministries programs. They also provide information on what you should do when you become aware of abuse.

 

Church Mutual Insurance company – has material available for churches and religious organizations that deal with church policies and training on their website. These materials are free and can be ordered through their website or by phone. Most of the materials are downloadable as well. They are not all inclusive but they do give you a good starting point. They also have available a sample church policy you can download and modify for your ministry. There resources include lists of other materials available through different organizations. You do not have to be a client to receive these free materials.
